The mission of Meals on Wheels is to support the independence and well-being of homebound seniors by providing regular nutrition and daily contact. Volunteers are the life blood of this program. As ambassadors of the program, volunteers provide a friendly, familiar face to participants across Jefferson County annually. Meals on Wheels volunteers allow participants to stay connected to their community and serve to increase public awareness of our mission, giving a voice to some of our most vulnerable neighbors. This of course aligns perfectly with our values as Catholics.
St. Francis Xavier parishioners have served as participants in this program for the better part of 20 years. We serve a specific route in the Titusville area of Birmingham and deliver approximately 10-13 meals five days a week. There are approximately 35 parishioners participating in this ministry and they deliver meals one day per month.
