Ladies of Charity

“To serve rather than be served in humility, simplicity and charity.”

Ladies of Charity of Central Alabama (LCCA)

The Ladies of Charity of Central Alabama (LCCA) is a community-based association of women working together against poverty. Its motto is “To serve rather than be served in humility, simplicity and charity.” The Ladies of Charity was the first organization founded by St. Vincent de Paul over 400 years ago in France to serve the poor. The Vincentian model is a model for living one’s life and is the foundation of the Ladies of Charity, locally, nationally, and internationally.

The local LCCA meets the first Wednesday of each month at St. Francis Xavier Church in the Joseph Room from 11:30-1:30. Activities include rosary making, lunches for the homeless, advocates for victims of domestic violence, annual Thanksgiving dinner, provides for a food pantry, spiritual formation at each meeting and offers opportunities for days of recollection.

Affiliation with the Ladies of Charity can last a lifetime.

History

The seeds of the Ladies of Charity were planted by Saint Vincent de Paul over 400 years ago in 1617 at Chatillon-les-Dombes in the mountainous region of eastern France. With the assistance of Saint Louise de Marillac, the seeds germinated and took root in the French countryside and then throughout the world. In 1857, the first Ladies of Charity association was formed in the United States to continue the work of Vincent and Louise. The number of associations grew, and in 1960 a national organization was formed for consistency and to strengthen the bonds of charity.

Our Core Values

Learn more about our values and our story as a church by visiting the about us page.

We acknowledge Jesus Christ as the head of our church and fully submit ourselves to His will. In every aspect of our ministry our goal is always to honor and glorify the Lord Jesus Christ.

We believe the Bible is God’s inspired authoritative and trustworthy rule of faith and practice for Christians. Therefore, we submit ourselves to its teaching, commit ourselves to do what it says, and yield our lives to become what Christ desires for us to be.

We believe in the power of prayer. Therefore, the ministries and activities our church will be characterized by a reliance on personal and corporate prayer in all areas of our lives and ministry.

We believe in the Great Commission commanded to us by Jesus Christ and we are committed to reaching unsaved and unchurched people locally, nationally and worldwide. We will use every available Christ-honoring means to pursue, win and disciple the people in our sphere of influence.

We believe God ordained the family to glorify him. We are committed to cultivate an atmosphere which promotes spiritual growth within the family by reaching families with the gospel, discipling them in Christ-like character and teaching each family member how to fulfill their God-given role.
